Cervix is the part of female reproductive system which is protected by the pelvic region. This opening connects the uterus and vagina. When the female is under menstrual cycle, the blood flows from the uterus through cervix.
White fluid like secretions are seen when the female is sexually excited. This mucus helps in lubricating the penetrated penis during the intercourse. In case if the female is pregnant, the cervix is tightly closed and protects the baby in the uterus itself.
Cervical cancer is the condition in which tumor cells are proliferated in the cervical region. They may also invade or attack the nearby tissues like ovary, uterus and vagina. The spread cancer is commonly known as secondary cancer and the process is known as metastasis.
The cancer cell proliferation begins on the surface of the cervix, they enter the blood tissues, by breaking other functional cells present in and around the uterus region. The factors that are affecting this cancer is HPV infection; they are group of viruses infected mainly when the females are in sexual contact. In these conditions the cervical cells are completely changed into necrotic cells.
Smoking cigarettes may affect the risk of cervical cancer; due to the development of free radicals in the body. If the females’ immune system is weakened; the HIV viruses may attack the genital body parts. Multiple sexual partners may also cause lead to cervical cancer.
Longer duration of use of birth control pills, having many children may cause cervical cancer. Treatments are based on the severity of the cancer stage; radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
